Hi Everyone,

I may need to move from Korea to take a job in another country requiring a criminal background check.

1. Can I get that criminal background check outside of the US?

2. If I need to go to the US, what specific steps will I need to take?

(I am visiting the US for three weeks this February).

Yes, you can get a criminal check while outside of the US, but you will do it via the mail, etc., with US institutions. Do a check on this site, there are multiple threads detailing the rather painful, prolonged process many of have gone through while living and working in Korea at the same time. Obviously, if you are doing it for another country, the requirements may differ from what we have done for Korean immigration. Appropriate steps will depend on that country (i.e., local, federal check, apostille, etc.)
