The insurance in my contract is listed as "Korean Medical Insurance Union" and not NHIC, as I understand is required by all those holding the E2 visa.

(Also this contract doesn't even mention the national pension scheme and the provided tax rate in the contract is 3.3%)

Should I not sign because of these?

The medical insurance has no value.

That said, how desperate are you for a job?

The same problem will exist with the majority of all hagwan jobs so finding something better (at a hagwan) may take a long time.

As far as I know, private medical insurance is only supplemental so you won't have the coverage that you would have under the National Health Insurance.

So do you think I should request NHIC insurance and national pension from this employer before even signing the contract, or is this my fate as someone applying to Hogwans?

I mean I literally have nothing to lose here in the States. I graduated in June and I'm broke and just need a job/income haha

Be aware that they are less than honest.
It may not be the only thing they cheat on (taxes, overtime, etc).

Just be aware that the vast majority of hagwan jobs have similar problems and the fight is usually more than most are willing to take on in terms of time, energy and expense.

Bring an extra set of spare documents and change at your convenience when you find something decent.

It's a S C A M!

Accept no substitutes to the NHI but feel free to supplement it.

Most hogwans provide National Health Insurance and Pension. You should keep looking until you find a job that offers these.

The tax rate at 3.3% is a clue that they will probably be treating you as an Independent Contractor. It is legal if the contract is written correctly, and it is a good deal for a few people but not for most.

Some employers do not understand the tax withholding structure and will overwithhold based on bad information from accountants and even the tax office. Some even underwithhold. You should use the tax table (see the tax thread under FAQs) to determine your correct tax rate at the National Tax Service.
