Does that make anyone else's skin crawl? Uuggghh, it's really getting out of hand today.

When my students do it, I tell them they are not babies, so stop it. If they continue, then I call them babies and treat them as such. If you want to talk like a baby, then I'll treat you like one.

But a few Korean teachers are doing it a lot too. Christ on a cracker. It does not make you look cute. It is not funny. It is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Only 1 in maybe 30 Korean girls can do it and make it sound cute. The rest of the time it just sounds ridiculous. Especially when Korean women, over 30, and carrying an extra 75 pounds around do it thinking it makes them sound small and adorable. Here's the thing, you wouldn't have to try to sound small and dainty if you just eat a salad and go for a jog, you'd actually be small and dainty.

Anyway, I needed to vent. Any time a coworker speaks to me in baby talk, I just ignore them. I may look right at them, but not respond until they talk to me like an adult. If I were ruler of the world, I'd ban baby talking. Anyone caught baby talking would be forced into a diaper and have a pacifier shoved in their mouth until they decided to act their age.

are you talking about whining, egg-yo (cutesy type talk), or something else?

i've experienced a fair share of egg-yo from students, coteachers, and girlfriends, and it really isn't that bad (at least imo). you're on the right track ignoring it or exaggerating it. i either ignore it all together or start doing it myself. i found it really gets the point across that you dislike it when you mock them to their face
