I'm pretty sure this is where I'll be living, starting at the of Feb. What's it like? I've read so many different things, good and bad. I wanna get the current scoop... Do the buses go to Sinchon/hongdae/itaewon from the bulgwang area? Oh, I'll also be workin at Langcon in hongje.. Any info would be awesome! Thx ppl

Welcome to the neighborhood. I live one more stop up the three line in Yeonshinnae. I love it here, but let's keep that between you and me.

Hongdae is only 20 minutes by subway on the six line, Itaewon another 15 minutes on the same line.

Shopping is okay, plenty of western fast food joints to get your fix at. No Costco but an Emart and movie multiplex all easily accessible.

Best feature for myself is the proximity to the Bukhansan national park. It's literally out your back door. If hiking is on your list of leisure activities you won't be disappointed. I organize a group of expats that hike there on the last Sumday each month if you're interested.

Bulgwang is on line 6, taking you directly to Hongdae (not the station, but the area) and Itaewon. Also line 3, so it's probably a pretty good transportation nexus tucked away in one of the quieter corners of the city.

Door step of Bukhansan sounds good to me. Thanks for the info. I'm likin that I can get to the places I enjoy fairly easily. and sounds good T-J. I still have my old k phone so that will be the first order of business! That, Galmaegi and soju.

There's a new core department store with a Kim's Club in the basement. 24 hour grocery shopping so you can avoid ajumma's ramming you in the aisles with their carts.

You'll have to go to bukhansan if you want to get to a park because there's nothing else to speak of. There's also some construction going on so could be a bit noisy at times.

Overall, it's a place that's definitely on the up and has changed quite a bit in the last few years. (i.e. ghettos have been bulldozed and replaced by modern apartments)

Bulgwang is terribly lacking foreign bars and has very little in term of Korean bars. Restaurants are OK but I'd go to Yeonsinnae for food.

Hongdae would be your best bet for foreign bars cause nothing really exists in eun pyung gu. There is a baby guinness bar in yeonsinnae but my experience was meh.
