Is this a thing here? I have some health issues I'd like to consult with a doctor about and I don't want it to just be some random doctor at a hospital. I want plenty of one-on-one time and to create a solid relationship with him/her while everything gets worked out.
Is there a Korean word for this? Is it common? |

| I think the closest thing to a general practitioner here is a doctor of internal medicine. The clinic would have 내과 in its name. |

I've seen some signs that say "family medicine." Or you could just walk down the streeet and find a one-doctor practice. |

They use the phrase:
"일반 개업의" in Korean to talk about General Practitioners.
The term gets a lot of hits on Naver, but I'm not sure where exactly you'd find one. There do seem to be mostly specialists out there. |

Dont rule out seeing a specialist if your problem is particular, they're not as exclusive or expensive as their counterparts in the west & you can seek them out without referral.
I'm seeing an orthopedic surgeon for shoulder tendinitis, he's great, & our consultations with xrays & treatment cost under $10 each (with NHIC). |

The reason I want a GP is that I'm looking for a full health rundown. As much as it might make me sound like a hypochondriac, I'm always paranoid about my health and always fear I have some strange disease or condition. Doing an extensive check would grant a load of relief.
I'm also planning on joining the Army when I get home next year and I don't like surprises. I've found the army health guidelines and I want a doctor to run through them all while I'm here just to make sure everything is in order.
I don't think there are any specialists for this is there? |

No you go to a hospital for this. Price varies but they do a full work up, blood, urine, x-rays, various tests like bone density, lung capacity, colonoscopy, endoscopy, usually toss in a CT scan of your choice (back/head/etc). Last time I did one, basically it took about 2 hours I just went to various little stations in the hospital in turn to do them. Some places will have a special on the next couple months as it's kind of off-season for them right now. The place I went last year was about 200,000. |
