Hey there,
I've been doing some research on GEPIK/EPIK/SMOE and have found a lot of conflicting information about how GEPIK in particular is changing this year.
Is KorVia now the only official recruiter for GEPIK? A different recruiting company told me that GEPIK is "unstable" and may go away next year, but I'm wondering if that's just because their company isn't an official GEPIK recruiter.
I'd appreciate any info on the current state of GEPIK. Thanks.  |

Well from what I understand (and others please feel free to correct me) is GEPIK's funding was cut last year by the provincial government. It was not able to renew a good number of teachers. Having said this GEPIK does not fund all NETs in Gyeonggi province. Many (i think around 500) are funded through the local city halls, but under GEPIK contracts. As far as I am aware teachers funded through the city hall are/have been renewed or at least more likely to be renewed. The immediate changes are that the GEPIK pay scale has been reduced and they have increased their qualification requirements.
No body knows what's going to happen over the next year or two, its all speculation. But gut feeling tells me that they will continue to whittle the numbers down bit by bit and until they reach a certain level. So in the future fewer, more experienced and more qualified teachers.
In other words if you want to stay in the same place for more than a year, I would suggest not going through GEPIK.
But as I said nobody knows anything for certain.
As for your other question. I'm sure GEPIK has more than one official recruiters, although that may have changed also. |

I'm not sure if they are the only ones or not but it doesn't make much of a difference as you can only use one recruiter per province anyway.
Actually, come to think of it, I'm pretty sure that worknplay also deal with GEPIK jobs. |

How do you find/identify jobs that are funded through local city halls? I would like to work in Gyeonggi-do for more than a year. |

I dont know. You can ask a recruiter but I'd say they wouldn't know either. |

Find a recruiter that can place you directly with a school (private recruitment to a public school) rather than submit everything to GEPIK or if you are in Korea, bang on a few doors (schools) or go to the city education office.

For some recruiter sites, I see that they post a list of jobs available in Gyeonggi-do. Does that mean they place people directly with a school? For GEPIK, they just make you fill out an application and you get randomly placed somewhere in the province, right?
I would like to find recruiters that place people directly with a school so that I can use multiple recruiters. |
