I got set up with a job through a recruiter and sent in all my documents. While waiting for my visa number, the recruiter called me and told me that the school backed out (losing students, didn't want to hire new teacher).

The recruiter said that she would continue looking for a job for me, but I'm getting impatient and realize that she might be limited to the number of jobs that she could get me versus the amount of jobs I'm looking at.

She says that she still has all my documents and that they're safe, but I'm wondering whether or not I should ask her to send them back to me. I suppose I'm nervous about how recruiters work: If they'll only get me a job that goes through their agency, and if they would help me out if I found another job on my own.

Thanks for any help!

I'd get them back if you could... chances are though, they will keep them for leverage. If you get your documents back and use a different agency they will lose that commission... lesson learned.

I'd hope that she wouldn't just use it for leverage -- she had a job for me until that school backed out. She said she would help me if I found another job on my own...though I know how far someone's word can go in the ROK.
