|
The Friday before last my hagwon told me I was fired. They had me work last week and they kicked me out of my apartment on Sunday. I got a letter of release from them, and I have been staying with a friend while I search for a new job. I thought I found a new job in Ilsan but the director of the school decided not to hire me because my previous hagwon talked badly of me to them. I don't want to leave Korea because I want to find a new job but I'm worried I won't find one in time. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do? My old hagwon is giving me until February 9th to cancel my E2 visa. |

Change your E-2 to a D-10. That will give you up to 6 months to find a new job. |

Is it hard to find a new job once you have been fired in Korea though? |

Not if you have a LOR and the other required docs... and also match the typical Korean conceptions of a good teacher ( White Female, North American, fair-haired, under 30). |

Go to immigration.
Make your required notification of change of status; loss of employment (as required by law).
Switch to a D10 (looking for work) visa. (cost is 50k won for the change and 10k for a new ARC).
This gives you 6 months to find new work and no worry about your old employer canceling your status.
Find a new job.

IF you had worked at the school for more than 6 months than you should have been given 30 days notice or 30 days pay or some mix of A and B. Take them to the labor board when you get settled. |

I worked at the school for a little less than 6 months. I had worked there for 5 months before they told me I was fired but they had me work the week after they told me I was fired. So, was I still suppose to be given 30 day notice? I feel like the week notice was not very fair. |
