My girlfriend and I have been in the process of applying for English teaching jobs in Pusan for about a month and a half now through a placement agency called Canadian Connection. We met with the company president in October and officially interviewed for the position in November. On December 2nd we were offered a contract in Pusan starting April 26th. The first step in our process was to gather the laundry list of necessary documents required by the placement agency and the schools in Pusan. We have paid hundreds of dollars to have our transcripts and degrees sent from all over the world (we're both international students), having them notarized, and going through our criminal record checks, references etc... After gathering all of the documents we were informed yesterday that the contract did not exist, these were his words:
"Unfortunately in talking with the supervisors in Pusan, they've just informed us that their office has cut the budget for hiring foreign teachers for the spring semester and will just be taking some teachers from EPIK."
This is a minor detail to Canadian Connection apparently, as it was included as a note in one of his e-mails rather than relayed to us in a phone call. However, it's a major set back for my girlfriend and I. We had our hearts set on Pusan in the spring and are now heartbroken that it will not happen.
Is there any chance at all that we may still be able to make this work? I know that the EPIK program closed it's applications on December 1st, so that's not an option but surely there are other avenues available to us?
Any advice that you can give would be helpful and uplifting!

Start scanning the ads.

There will be public schools who will be hiring through other recruiters who are funded by local programs and not the POE/COE.

Apply often and don't limit yourself to just one recruiter.

You have your documents in hand so you will be ready to take the next available PS job that comes along.

The term starts March 2 so there will be some last minute opportunities come up soon for those who are ready (documents in hand). Visa processing only takes 12-21 days (application to airplane).
