If I were to purchase a new Macbook Pro and an Ipad and have some friends in the States remove them from their packaging and ship them as used--would I run into any customs fees or holds (worried about the new Ipad)?
This purchase may come as a surprise to some of you as I've been pretty vocal about my disdain for Apple. Unfortunately, my new hobby is music production and going Mac... *sigh*... is the best option. I'd be using the iPad with Lemur. |

That was a normal price for a laptop 10 years ago. People bought laptops back then, so if it was worth it for them, why wouldn't this computer be worth it for you?
On the other hand, if you are looking for performance/$$$ it is of course a horrible choice. |

That doesn't make too much sense.
No Macheads here to defend their shiny machines? I'm already fearing buyer's remorse. There must be SOMETHING aside from aesthetics and the Apple OS that gets people to fork over triple the price for what is essentially the same thing on the inside.
We might not even be talking high quality parts in Apple products. They could be using bottom of the barrel components--which I've heard but am too lazy to confirm since I wouldn't have a choice if I bought one anyway. |

If you haven't already bought it, I would recommend buying it with the default RAM and HDD options, then upgrading to 8GB and SSD yourself. That would save you a fair bit of money. |

Oh! I didn't know I could do that with a Mac. Great idea. Those Samsung 830 SSDs are lookin' good.
Also, according to Macrumors.com, they're about to overhaul to Macbook Pro so hopefully we'll see something better than this 2-year-old tech. Probably will wait til then before jumping the gun on this shizzz. |

the battery life on macbooks is fantastic, but the quality of component upgrades in relation to the cost of the machines has been decreasing since 2009. |

Aesthetics (aluminium), IPS screens, battery, OS and I'd also mention security. Hard to put a price on knowing all your personal info stored on your comp is secure. I think this has been microsofts biggest failure though they're getting better. I personally use both osx n win 7 and like them both : ) I definitely see windows based options as higher value bang for your buck tho. But i think if your comparing windows to Mac u have to look at HP envys for a comparable device of high quality with molded aluminum case n hi res screens and suddenly the price isn't an awful lot short of MacBook pros. At the end of the day it's horses for courses. Fanboys have self esteem issues. |
