Probably not the best place to post it, but would love some encouragement.

I recently had a birthday and visited the homeland and spent days and days in the bottom of a bottle.

Encouragement please....anyone else in the same boat? I'm starting to realize that one can get crazy addicted in Korea. Answer (the club) made me realize it. I've spend more than 10,000,000 won in that place. ㅠㅠ

Keep at it. Just take it one day at a time.
Are you back in Korea? It is hard not to drink as that is what most people do here to relax. I am a terrible binge drinker, but I am currently off the bottle. I feel so much better.
It is worth slowing down!!

Actually just want to add - don't wait until you get health problems like me (from the booze) and HAVE to stop. It's not fun. Even though I have stopped I wish I had listened to my body years ago and stopped sooner. I am basically f**ked now, and it's my own fault.

Thank you so much. In fact, I'm back in Korea and it seems that I'm starting to realize I've got a problem. I binge only. I can't even be bothered with figuring out my limit and being here doesn't really help.

I've decided to somehow commit to only weekends, but to be honest I've got so many friends who want me to go out all the time. Do I really have to dump them to make my life better? I'm a super introvert and even I'd admit I'm more likable with a bottle in hand. Crying or Very sad

Exercise a lot to take the edge/urge off a bit.
Get a hobby other than drinking.
Get a steady girlfriend who just likes to stay at home and chill.
Tell the friends you are busy sometimes; don't let them pressure you.
Get a savings plan going to make up for the cash you spent on booze.
Wake up early so you can't stay out too late.

Now if only I could follow this great advice! Good luck! Wink

And...try going out once without drinking anything but cider. People will hate you but just try. Watch everyone else become slow, retarded a-holes the more they drink. Not saying it's fun but it's an interesting experiment and a good test of willpower.

Drinking buddies aren't friends.

The only effective (but might sound evil) way probably is:

Find a miserable pathetic daily drinker and watch him on a daily base.

The premise is you have to know him well so that you can take a close look at his life.

I can't tell where this idea is from, but it should work well. It won't work though if you are the most miserable and pathetic drinker you know .

This.

Whenever I stop bad habits that I like, its always because of something like this.

I would binge on fried chicken and pizza, but there was this one NET who ate nothing but and it drove me to hating the stuff for a year. He also drank nonstop. Now that he's gone its back to the booze and crap food.

And FYI, he also drove me to apologista-dom because of his utterly over the top, irrational anti-Korea rants. It was like seeing a mirror of myself and how I acted towards Koreans back in the States during my "everyone in this world is so stupid" years. You have him to thank for my apologista ludicrousness, though the beginnings of it I will detail below...

Yes and no. Some will be loyal as dogs because of that chemical bonding and a few stay with you through thick and thin and even when you are off the sauce. Usually because of good conversations and wit while drinking and they appreciate that more than the drink.

On the other hand if you go on an alcohol tether and can't drink, watch how quickly most of them drop you. Who's your friend? People from church. The very Korean church people I ridiculed as "stupid".

OP It's a difficult place to be. Take some Vitamin B1. For some people, it can help take away the strong cravings. There is no easy answers. You have to find your way and find friends who will support you and want to see you succeed in your goals. If they don't want to see you succeed, then I would seriously question if they are real friends.

You might also find AA to be helpful as well.
We're pulling for you!!

I think the key is to keep yourself occupied. And keep yourself out of the bars. Simply do something else, preferably constructive, with your time. If you're too busy to go to a club, then you won't be going to a club. Also, if you're a smoker, you should stop that also. Make it a "two-fer": stop drinking and stop smoking. Again, keep yourself occupied and out of places where it's accepted (or expected) to drink and/or smoke.

Aye, I did dumb it down a fair bit with that statement. There will be a few gems in the rough but, if a person wants to cut down on the boozing, saying "How will I maintain my friendships!" isn't going to help. The people purely in it for the boozey times will fall by the wayside, you'll see them less, whatever. It's just important to realize that the awesome dude you know from the local watering hole who is like your bestest buddy EVAR will 99% disappear without the booze connection, and, more importantly, this shouldn't concern someone trying to cut back.

Give up drinking and never touch another drop ever again. Problem solved.

Dude I spent the past tow years in the evenings watching tv with at least a 1.6ltr pitcher of max for company.

I just got sick of the acid reflux and the damned tiredness in the daytime.

I decided to only drink on weeknds and then not to excess and it is AWESOME.

The key for me was starting a new excercise programme - www.hundredpushups.com - and the 100 sit ups and 100 squats and 50 pullups programes you'll find linked there.

I sleep better and have strength and energy all day long now and feel way more positive and the programme having set goals really keeps me motivated.

I stil do my tv and comfort sessions in the evenings but instead of booze just a few smokes and a nice salad with fancy meats and cheeses as treats.

I wouldn't go back to that former lifestyle no way.

That said that was when normal schedule was in effect as I got home at 10pm and only had a few hrs to fill in the evening.

Now I'm on winter camp schedule and get home at 7pm, I have been backsliding.

To counter that I will restart the workout programmes as something about having a 6 week period of clean living ahead to achieve a goal works for me. That goal at the end of improved strength (and looking way, way better) really works for me and helps me find happiness in alternate things than drinking, it makes me make an effort to adjust to the new lifestyle and where I thought not drinking would be impossible, I find new depths to my character and find I can do it easier than I thought.

Waking up with my body feeling solid and carved of wood and feeling fully replenished and energised and looking better is awesome.

Keep it for the weekends and vacations man. You don't have to give it up completely and become a monk (unless you are an actual alcoholic, which I thankfully was not, had no tolerance build up, no withdrawal or cravings or problems going a few days without if I had to due to circumstances.)

Get your butt in gear and start an exercise programme with goals. You'll feel a lot better about yourself and save money too.

It's funny how when I was boozing nightly I thought I looked in ok / acceptable shape but now I look at pics form me back then and can see I looked like crap.

Now I look pretty good if I can say so myself and look forward to looking and feeling at least this good or better - always.

I will always do pushups, pullups, crunches and bodywieght squats probably for the rest of my life now, that's how much I enjoy it. No equipment (bar pull up frame at local park) no expenses and 4 simple exercises that briung a full body workout plus the squats are great cardio once you start hitting 50 plus per set.

Yeah man, hear me, get working out and get gnarly(er). It feels good. Or join an mma gym or something. It literally only took me 4 weeks until my body got sollid again on the programmes I mentioned.

Boo ya!

I'm sure everyone is going to call me a troll for saying this, but I see a flaw in the OP's plan to stop drinking on weekdays and only drink on weekends.

He has confessed to being a binge drinker, which means when the weekend comes around he's going to binge drink, which isn't going to help.

If you want encouragement see a substance abuse group and get a sponsor.

good luck
