I have my original degree with me and I am changing jobs soon (E-2 visa).

When I was in Canada I took it to a lawyer and then mailed it to the Korean consulate in Toronto.

I wonder if the process is the same for those who are in Korea.

Anyone know????

Thanks!!!!!

Send it to someone in Canada who can take it to a lawyer and get a certified true copy made.

Then run it across the street (along with an official transcript) and get it (the copy(s)) K-consulate certified. They/you can mail it but walking across the street is 7-days faster.

Then they mail it back to you.

I hope I can get it done by March 2nd!!!

I wonder if immigration would give me the boot and I would loose my new job which starts on March 2nd if I don't get it done on time. I'm currently on an E-2 and changing jobs.

Yikes!!!

Do you think they would throw me out of the country???

I have a notarized degree but it was notarized 2 years ago and I think it needs to have been done wihtin the last 6 months.

Have a great day!!!!

Notarized or K-consulate certified?
If K-consulate certified there is no date restriction (unlike a CBC).

Did you use your original or a certified copy when you got your last E2?

and lastly, IF Kimmi does not have the appropriate documents on file they will refuse an application for extension or transfer. You had a full year to get it done (rule change announced in the summer of 2010 and 2011 was your year to get your documents in order if they weren't already).

I took my original degree to a lawyer in my hometown in Canada, she notarized it. Then I mailed it to the Korean consulate in Toronto and they stamped it.

If that's not OK then I should have just enough time to get it done if I mail my degree (along with a set of transcripts, which I think are also required and which I am fortunate enough to have saved a few sealed sets) to my lawyer on Wed, have her send it to the Korean consulate in Toronto and then back to me. We will need to use express post but I think it will be OK.

Thanks again for the help!!!!

Canadian = check.
Degree copy with k-consulate stamp = check.
CBC on file = check.

You are good to go with no worry.

I think the Canadian consulate in Korea can notarize documents for $50.00. I realize your problem is solved but for others who might read this thread, check with the consulate or embassy. I had my CBC notarized in Seoul a few years ago after my new employer accidentally opened the sealed document.
