hello. i just had a few questions about renewal/signing with a new school.

i've read that some people have to submit their CRC again when they renew their contract or try to sign with another school. but i also know that some people did not have to resubmit their documents. how does immigration and the school determine this? if i submitted my documents last year, is it still valid?

also, when is a visa run required if you are renewing or signing with a new school? i know my friend had to do it when he arrived in Korea for the first time on a tourist visa, but i've also heard of people doing this when they were renewing or signing with a new school.

Last year the majority concern was about type of CRC. I have know a few people who could not renew because they had the wrong one. In 2010 Korean immigration changed policy about use of city/state/provincial police checks. Now Korea immi wants a National check. For Canadians and Americans that can be difficult and take a long time. But immi was nice and gave many people who renewed with school a Muligan. So if you renewed or transfered again you would need a national check.

So OP when you signed first time with your school was your CRC a national check aka RCMP/FBI/Australia National Police etc? If it was a state one or city you might need a new one.

A visa run is unlikely for a renewal. A visit to immigration is only needed.

Why maybe some people did a visa run is well ignorance on their or schools part. Conflicts with contract times also. For example some one does a year contract. Takes 2 weeks of to go back home, resigned with school but did not renew visa, comes backs and will need to resign contract.

Even if you do not need a CRC check, consider getting one just in case. Same with other paperwork too.

i'm a US citizen and submitted the FBI check year. in this case, i would not have to resubmit? for some reason, i could've sworn that i heard some people had to resubmit even if they submitted the FBI check last year. but you're saying that it could be the ignorance of the schools, correct?

so you only have to resubmit your FBI CRC if:
-you are applying for your E2 visa for the first time
-signed with a school before the law changed (2010?), so you've never submitted your FBI CRC
-if your visa expired, and you are getting a new teaching job in Korea

for the last one, i'm still a bit confused...so lets say i submitted my FBI check last year, but my visa expired this month. i would still have to resubmit a new FBI check if i got a job starting next month, correct?

and you will only need to do a visa run if:
your visa expired, and you want to re-sign with another school. then you will need to go to Japan and renew your visa with the new contract. is this correct? so if my visa expires April 1, 2012, as long as I find a school before then, i don't have to do a visa run or do a new FBI check (if i already submitted the check last year)?

authenticated CBC and degree copy on file at immigration then for a renewal you need:

ARC
passport
new contract
application (extension of stay)
fee (30k won)
copy of the business registration for the school (yes, ALL schools have one)
letter of guarantee (sponsorship form).

You do NOT need a new CBC or degree copy for immigration or the renewal.

You MAY need a set for the MOE (new rules this year) but an immigration issued COPY will be sufficient for those on an E2 (300 won per copy).

ok, now i understand for renewal.

so how about if i were to sign with a new school before my visa expires? do i need to resubmit the CBC? if i submitted my docs last year to immigration, does that mean they have my information on file?
and what if my visa expired before i signed with a new school? would that require me to do everything over again? this is the time i would have to do a visa run, correct?

i've asked a few of my friends that have been here for a few years, and they had different answers and none of them were sure of what the 'proper' way of doing this was. i guess the laws have changed so much that many people are confused about this process.

and i did hear that sometimes it can be 'case by case'. not exactly sure how they would determine this though.
