http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/the-demise-of-the-dollar-1798175.html

This has been mentioned quite a bit over the last couple of years in various 'high quality' newspapers.

Weren't the Libyans looking to start a gold based currency for all oil trading shortly before they were invaded? Wasn't this also the case with Iraq looking to switch to trading in the Euro before they were invaded?

The OP is not totally off base, and he is on the right track believe it or not.
As the dollar becomes more unstable (worthless) countries will opt for a more reliable currency to trade the world's most precious commodity in.

This will usher in the end and collapse of the dollar as we know it.

Funny how prophesies said that in the End there will be ONE currency (and one ruler and one religion).

I see ALL of that coming to pass when I read that in the makings is a "new" religion uniting Christianity and Islam into one being called, "Chislam."

When you hear about ONE WORLD currency you know the End is nigh.

I came across something the other day that mentioned India will soon start paying for Iranian oil in gold. Don't remember where I read it, but for anyone interested it might be worth searching around the net for confirmation. Would be an interesting move if true. I'd imagine the Chinese will follow suit at some point.

Why would the dollar become worthless??? Please explain. the Euro is dying. Whether India pays in gold or cow chips the oil will still be priced in dollars. It is not the currency that you pay but how the product is priced. As far as the myth that Iraq wanted to price in Euros as being the reason for invasion.
Why in anyway would this bother the U.S. the Euro is a convertible currency so no problem

Really gold based trading well what would be the pricing unit for the oil. You can pay for the oil in any currency but it is priced in dollars. Think about how difficult it would be to trade in actual gold. But internet rumors about invasions. Did Europe invade Libya. italy and Germany had the bigest stake in Libyan oil. Again why would the pricing system change???
