|

So, I got married last year and was issued an F-2 visa. It is valid until the end of August. I am also renewing my contract at my current job. My principal told all the NET's to bring a copy of the contract to immigration. But, if I am now being sponsored by my husband, does immigration really need proof of my continued employment? All the other NET's are on E-2's, so my school isn't sure. My husband says I absolutely don't have to go to immigration. (Also, if I submitted an FBI CBC last year, I don't have to submit another one, right?)
Second question: I read that marriage visas are now called F-6's. Do I need to change my visa status to F-6 before it expires? If I do change my visa status, will that affect my wait time before I can get an F-5? |

You don't need to show the contract to immigration, and you don't need a CBC for immigration. You may or may not need to give a CBC to the MOE. It seems some new rules are going into effect this year and they're not exactly clear yet.
As for the F-6, your status will be changed to F-6 when you go in to renew your visa, but there's no need to go to immigration to switch over before renewal time. It won't affect the wait time for F-5. |

You might want to call Immigration to inquire about whether you need to present yourself at their offices in order to be fingerprinted. They've recently made this once again a requirement for all foreign residents. I'm on an F-5 visa and I've received a written notice from my local Immigration office informing me that I have until March 31 to present myself. |
