On my EPIK application I did not disclose that I had any piercings. However I do in fact have my nipples pierced (I am a male). Upon discovery during my physical, will I risk losing my job? (I start work in February). I also have my ears pierced but do not wear anything in them. |

I'm not sure if that's still applicable. I think that the law was changed recently and you now just get sent to a forced labor camp for half a year. But that might only apply to belly button piercings. |

All kidding aside, no worry.

at my group's physical no one had to take of their shirt. Also, the doctors aren't holding your application in one hand and examining you with the other. It isn't something to worry about. |

Just don't show them or talk about them to your students and coworkers and you won't have a problem. (maybe avoid any tight fitting shirts if they show through)
Also be careful if you go to the public sauna near your school/home. Parents, students or coworkers might be there who could see them. |

Okay good. It's not like they're shaped like swastikas or anything. |

During the physical you probably won't take your shirt off but you will take a chest x-ray. I'd take them out for that or they'll think you have crazy symmetrical lung tumors. |

This. a friend with a nipple piercing freaked the doctor out during the X-ray. Good times. |

For the chest x-ray, we can just wear a light cotton shirt, right? (I'm a guy, but I'm a bit self-conscious about a scar.) |

They'll give you a pajama-type robe sort of shirt to wear for the whole exam.
OP: It's been said, but just take out your piercing(s). My friend and I didn't and our chest X-ray images were left up on a computer screen in the room where the school director's wife was chatting with the nurse. Uncool.
Good advice about local saunas -- go on the off hours, at least (late on weekdays, for example), so you don't run into your students or their parents. |
