Looks like I'll be moving to Korea.

It's a bit different from most of you but this was the closest forum I found so I've been a reader for a while.

I'll be joining Hyundai Engineering in Seoul. I'm still trying to figure out the tax rate, how to get a phone, benefits, and such but hoping I do not have too much trouble.

I just wanted to post Hi and appreciate all the help I'm receiving from this forum.

I do have a 20' container they are giving me but they are also furnishing me with a furnished officetel so I'm actually not quite sure what I should bring with me. Any suggestions?

Deodorant. Lots of deodorant. It is impossible to get deodorant in Korea.

Laughing I kid.

20ft. Man you can bring anything you damn well please. That container will probably be almost as big as your officetel, so don't go overboard. Maybe bring your bike if you are in to that. Any excercise equipment you might want to bring. Remember that if you bring electronics you will need 220>110 converters (If you are from the US/Canada) for things like a TV, kitchen appliances, etc... And make sure the converters have enough watts to support your appliances. Probably best to just buy the converters here.

What is your visa? Some phone companies/stores don't sell phones directly to foreigners. This doesn't happen as much any more. Check the tech forum here for phone advice. I wouldn't be surprised if your company just gives you a phone.

Your HR department/supervisor should help you with getting setup on the insurance plan.

To get a phone, one easy way is to go to Iteawanno road and there is an alley right behind the road that is home to a lot of muslim shops, some of the shops sell used phones that are good quality and you can get pay per use cards for them. Just turn right off of itaewon at the Taco Bell and take your first left. The shops are in that area. All they need is your passport and thats it. Its all done legally.

Go find all the pants that you like in the USA and collect and take as many as them as possible. A Good variety of Western sized pants is very difficult to find in Korea.

Thanks for the advice. I'm debating on if its even worth taking any electronics with me and just buy new ones there.

I'm trying to read the thread if I qualify for a tax exemption for the first 2 years. I hope i do anyways.
