I will be back again in Korea in March with a H-1 Visa (working holiday visa). Has anyone here been to Korea before on the H-1 visa? If so what kind of work did you find? With the H-1 visa you are not allowed to teach English.
I have looked for jobs on all the online sites but nothing for people with H-1 visas. Will my year in Korea be spent working out of bars? Or does anyone else know of other jobs available while I'm on the H-1 visa?
Thanks |

I think working in bars is also restricted for those on an H1.
Doesn't say you can't find work but there may be consequences if you are caught.
Hotels and the tourism sector are the intended options for the working holiday but you can work at most jobs you qualify for within the restrictions of the visa (part time and only 3 months at any one employer).
Finding the job will be a boots on the ground affair. You are not likely to find anything from abroad.

I may be mistaken. (I frequently am)
But I would be very careful about trying to find work while on that type of visa. Employers know that you aren't legally allowed to work full-time , so they may offer you full-time work and then shaft you royally when it comes payday. They know that you will have no legal recourse.
Just something to think about. |

Thanks for the tips. I'll be over in Korea shortly and start looking for work. Hotels and Tourism seems like my best bet even if it is only for a few months. |

I have read a lot of stories on here and other sites about people getting screwed over in Korea while working. I'm really not looking for a full time job just a little bit of work to keep me sane. I will have savings with me and probably be doing some travelling around Korea.
Thanks for your insight. |
