To those of you in the know, I apologze if this kind of question has been asked a million times before. I could not find a clear answer through google search, though, and davesesl's search function is not working. So, feel free to answer with a link to another discussion, but be kind Smile

I want to buy a kindle fire outside of korea and then use it in korea: at home and on the subway (wibro).

Is this possible and how? Do I need a router or is wibro compatible with regular wifi.

Or, should I rather wait and buy the kindle in korea?

Thank you in advance.

Only way to buy Kindle fire is through Amazon US. Most likely you'll have to pay import tax since it's 200 bucks and shipping is close to 50-60. Anything over 150 bucks including shipping is taxed.

You could get somebody back home and ship it to you stripped of the box and packaging. Just the device and whatever else you need to use it.

Thanks for the reply.

I get that only amazon sells it. I just thought there might be an edition specifically for use in Korea.

Will wibro work on it? That's really my question.

What I did for my Kindle 3 is got a KTOlleh/Nespot account. You want to get a wireless account and register the MAC address (special computer number not the company). You will be added to the network of acceptable links. You want to avoid the ones that will install special software or web page logins.

As to wibro? I do not think so. Different technology. Kindle fire looks to be basic 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connection. Looks like no 3G. Plus Wibro looks to be a different tech. I would also expect use the egg device is not a option too. Would look funny and reduce the functionality of the Kindle Fire.

My NESPOT is okay at about 10,000 a month and OK coverage.

If you already get cable through KT they might give you a discount.

I only pay about 7,000W a month for NESPOT and they also "gave" me a "free" wireless router (it has to be returned when I leave) to use in my house.
