Hi folks,
I'm moving in March (Gangnam --> Noksapyeong), and I want to rent a truck and move my stuff. I'm not really interested in paying a mover.
Where can I rent a truck? I have a Korean drivers license. Any idea about the cost?
Thanks! |

I dont see how it could be a good idea.
First of all, you may need a different license to drive a bongo.
If you dont want someone to move your stuff than just get someone to drive you to the other place. 2 years ago we payed a guy 40,000 Krw to drive our stuff to our new place. We carried down all our things to in front of the house. The guy came and we loaded everything on the truck. It was full. Than we also sat in and he drove us to our new place which was about 45 min away (just to clarify that it was not very close). Quickly unloaded the stuff next to the buildings entrance and he was on the way. We spent another 1 hour or so to bring everything up to our flat. We paid only 40,000Krw for this.
Renting cant be cheaper than that and you will need insurance thus some gas.
50,000-60,000 will cover the moving. You can also ask the driver to help you carry some larger things (fridge, washer etc.) it will cost you 10,000 more maybe.

You don't need a different license to drive a bongo. AFAIK you can even drive a hagwon bus without any special license. That's why they are all such lousy drivers.
But, the estimates I've heard were in the 200,000-300,000 range. That's why I'm trying to rent my own truck. Where does one get a driver for 40-50? |

How much stuff do you have?
If you're just moving smaller furniture and appliances, you can get a call van. Just let them know ahead of time you're moving things so they can remove the seats. I used one the last time I moved and it was only 30K for Hongdae to Itaewon. |

I assume you dont have many larger items (otherwise you wouldnt plan to move alone) in which case you may not need any help from the mover. Thats the cheapest way of moving and it would be around 50,000Krw.
We just moved 2 months ago and now we had a lot of things and large, heavy items so we hired a guy who brought a helper. We already boxed and packed everything and even helped to bring the lighter items. The two of them took care of the heavy stuffs. We had to make 2 rounds with the truck because we had a lot of things. (it was close distance though) and paid 200,000 Krw.
It also depends on which floor you move out/to. Elevator or stairs etc
This guy moved us and since we used his services again to ship some household stuff.
He speaks good English and is a nice guy. Woo Bong Sin 011-217-8944 |
