Hi, has anyone heard of this public school in Bucheonbuk Elementary School? I have been offered a job and would love any information/thoughts. Maybe I'm spelling it incorrectly but this is how my Korean recruiter spelled it.
Thanks for any info!! |

go to www.bucheonbuk.es.kr for the school website.
It's between Incheon and Seoul.
This year's graduating class: 292 It's a big school.
Made some noise about installing new audio-visual equipment |

Nice area. Looks like it's near Bucheon Station on Line 1. Can't say anything about the school itself. You can search it on google maps easily if you write it this way: 부천북초등학교 |

Public schools are going to be hit or miss. Depends on the principal, your head teacher, and how good, bad, or hardworking the person you are replacing was. Some people have the easiest jobs in the world, some people are in hell. No one is really going to know anything about the school except the one person who has worked there. Bucheon is a good area though. Lots of parks and places to eat. 2 pretty good western bars, movie theaters, a huge water park and indoor ski area if you are into that sort of thing. Its a planned city and from Bucheon station, you are about 20 minutes from the center of seoul on the express train. A cab back from hongdae (the closest good nightlife area in seoul, in my opinion) will run you less than 20,000 won if its late at night and the roads are dead. Thats a lot better than most people who dont actually live in Seoul. Like I said, as far as the people at the school, you never know. A bad principal is just as bad, if not worse than an insane hogwan owner. Either way you are dealing with Koreans on a power trip. You have a little more protection under a public school, but the deck will always be stacked against you if they want it to be. |

Just to round it out, a train to hongdae runs between 35-40 minutes if you use the express train and transfer at line 2. It takes about 60 minutes to get to Gangnam station. Itaewon is a about 50 minutes because there isnt an easy transfer station. Sometimes, if Im in a group, its less hassle just to go to Yongsan by express train and get a cab for 6,000 or so split however many ways. Overall Bucheon is an ok place to live. You have a lot of foreigners and bars in Bupyeong, incheon only 4 stops away, and you can get anywhere in seoul in under an hour. Also, there is an Emart inside Bucheon station and a really good Indian restaurant maybe 400 meters from the station and an even better one near Hyundai department store, a 2,500 won cab ride. |
