Hey, I want to come back to korea and teach again.
I have a valid F-4 visa, but can't figure out what other documents I'd need for immi/the MoE. Does anyone know for sure?
The last I heard was that the MoE was requiring yearly FBI checks for all Americans even those that already have F visas, but that was hearsay.
Any other F-4 holders changed jobs lately? What docs did you need? I asked a few recruiters, but they don't seem to know/don't respond.
Do I have to go through the hassle of an FBI check, or will an apostilled state-check be good enough for MoE/hagwon owners since I've already got the work visa?
cheers! I tried a search, but couldn't find anything similar to my situation. |

from my understanding of the new law is that ALL teachers (regardless of what visa they hold) must have a national level background check to teach in Korea. and that the CBC is only valid for 6 months |

Well simply put before unhand some F-4 people who had criminal records or no degrees could teach. Rather then immigration asking for it it will likely be Education. So also have your degree and CRC ready too. Also expect to have a medical test to be done.
That stuff will be needed if you are teaching. If you are tending bar or working in a company or whatever then you will not need it.
Also be careful of the six month expiry. It does not mean you need a new one every six months, just more that it needs to be less then six month of application. Which in the case is different as Education is asking for it. Hmm what to do - recent is better then old. So I expect the one you got 3 years ago will not cut it.
Also since this is new development and still be figured out. Best advice is to get everything you can. You can be very surprised who might ask for what, even if they really do not need it. |

Effective in February, ALL TEACHERS in Korea will need to submit a "national" CBC (with apostille) and a degree copy (again with apostille) to be registered at the MOE regardless of nationality or visa class.
The announcement was made about 6 months ago (allowing plenty of time for everyone to get the documents to get into compliance).
E2 holders can submit copies of the documents on file at immigration (get them from immigration @300 won per copy).
F-class holders will have to obtain them or find a new occupation other than teaching.

Does anyone know if the nation-wide check can be done through one of the channelers or does it have to be the official FBI letterhead? |

I would error on the side of caution - get the same one that an E-2 would get. So American - FBI. Maybe you could get away with another type. True education dept might not know the difference ... for now. |
