I'll be about 5 days behind ya. What area are you going to? I'll be in a rural town west of Busan.

Seoul area...my Contract looks pretty standard except this:

10 The employer will deduct 200,000 won from each of the employees first three months from each of the employees first three months pay to make a total of 600,000 won as housing management deposit. This deposit is cover pay to make a total of 600,000 won as housing management deposit. This deposit is cover any unpaid monthly service or utility bills in the event employee fails to any unpaid monthly service or utility bills in the event employee fails to pay for any service or goods which she/he used throughout the contract. The employer will hold full amount of or goods which she/he used throughout the contract. The employer will hold full amount of the deposit until all payable bills are checked to have been paid. The deposit until all payable bills are checked to have been paid. After the employee completes his/her 12 month contract, he/she will be refunded the 600,000 won if all bills are paid refunded the 600,000 won if all bills are paid.

if anyone can lmk if this is standard, kinda high, or just outrageous...much appreciated!

Hmm, that's not in my contract.

I'm leaving on the 18th, going to Busan. Pretty nervous!

It isn't standard per se. But, it pops up sometimes, usually if the school has been burnt by a teacher doing a runner and/or the person leaving having not paid all of their bills in full...

It's actually standard for public school (they actually usually take 3 lots of 300k) and a lot of hakwans also do it. Nothing out of the ordinary here.

I try to eat as much Mexican and Italian food as possible before I leave. You're not going to find very good versions of those cuisines in Korea.
