I'm coming up on the end of my contract at a hogwan here in Korea. This was my second job here and I got it through visa transfer without leaving the country.
I had a question about my airfare. My contract says that I was supposed to get airfare to and from Korea. Obviously I didn't need it to get to Korea, so would it be reasonable to ask for some sort of reimbursement for the first airfare and ask for a ticket home?
I don't know what most folks normall do in this situation. I didn't say anything about airfare when I first got to this school. |

Just from my experience, that's going to be a long-shot. |

Absolutely not. You will get nothing for incoming airfare.
Most people will negotiate a higher salary if you are in country when they start a new job BEFORE they sign the contract and work an entire year. It is easy to squeeze another 50,000-100,000 a month out of your new employer because they don't need to buy that ticket. You're about 12 months too late.
The contract states you get money for AN AIRPLANE TICKET to Korea. There was no airplane ticket to Korea. |

I have been in this situation twice -- already in Korea and starting a contract.
The first time, the school actually priced the cheapest ticket online and gave me cash at the end of my contract (along with severance and return airfare).
The second time, there was no way they were going to pay for it.
I think it just depends on your employer. I also think it's a long shot. |

Thanks for the help. I just won't bother with it, no big deal. |
