First, I want to apologize for asking this question. I am sure it has been ask many times before on this site but the search feature gives me no results. Plus, I am typing this very fast because I have to get out of here for a meeting. Please forgive typos.
Last night, at around 10pm, I received an unexpected phone call from a private school that I had directly applied to. The woman was very nice and spoke some English. Our phone conversation was very short and awkward. She wanted to know if I had any questions for her. Since I was not expecting her phone call my mind went blank. I did manage to ask a question about class size. She wanted to know when I would have my FBI background check. I let her know it would be sometime this week. She said I will send you an email now. You email me if you have questions for me. That was it! I am not sure what to think
She did send an email saying she was happy to talk to me and to email her with any questions. I am not sure if that was a job offer or what? Any suggestions, comments? |

Pretty typical for a hagwan.
Yup, you are real.
Yup, you speak English better than we do.
Yup, you should have the paperwork soon.
Yup, when you get it you have a job unless we find someone else sooner with the paperwork ready now.

Tell her you want to talk (or at least email) another native teacher. Then ask him/her everything you want to know. |

My first interview was short and awkward. It was my first time having a conversation at length with someone who didn't speak English well at all and I was in the gym locker room to boot, so I figure I understood about 30% of what was said.
I still passed the interview, got the job and worked there for a year, though. |

You've got the job, they sounds desperate and they're doing it last minute. They probably had someone pull out or quit. |

I have been in contact with the teacher who is leaving. She is very positive about the school but wants to be closer to her husband who teaches in a different location in Korea. She has been very helpful. I was just surprised at the unexpected short phone call last night.
Also, I contacted my congressman on Monday to request help in expediting my CBC. They were on top of it within two hours and by the end of the day I had recevied an email saying it would be expedited. Anyone have any experience with that? |
