Peoples Tribunal Puts Spotlight on Cambodian Garment Industry - Phnom Penh A peoples tribunal on wages and working conditions in garment factories took place last week in Phnom Penh.

In 2010, 261 labor leaders were reportedly suspended or dismissed after leading a strike of around 200,000 garment workers to demand an increase of the minimum wage from $61 a month to $93 a month.

A representative from the Asia Floor Wage Campaign, which helped organise the tribunal, told the Phnom Penh Post that, the monthly minimum wage for garment workers in Cambodia should be US$281, a figure that stands about 4 times the current minimum wage of $66 a month.
