Does anyone know of a decent cobbler in the Seoul area?
I was considering just taking my shoes to one of those little box/shoe repair places, but I've heard they are extremely hit or miss.
Thanks. |

I'll be interested to see what kind of responses you get. I posted a similar post a year or more ago. Unfortunately, I think it's limited to the the box operations you're referring to. It's probably a hit and miss proposition.
I had a sole coming apart from the top part of the shoe and took it to a guy to fix. He took the time to stitch it but stitching it in such a way that the threads were exposed to the pavement so it took only as long as you'd imagine for the threads to wear out walking on pavement to last. The best part of the service was he didn't charge much for it - and he shouldn't have.
I imagine that with the shipping containers full of cheap shoes coming from China that this is a buy and throw away kind of cycle here..... |

Usually, those little "box operations" charge 5000 won or less, and we've usually been satisfied with the quality. My wife has taken boots and shoes maybe a half dozen times. |

I've had lots of work done at the small places on the street here in Daegu. One suggestion I would make would be, for the first time, to try a place in a residential neighborhood, as opposed to a place downtown or at the train station. The reason is that places that are more out of the way have to do better work to maintain customers than places in heavily frequented areas. Also, train station guys mostly shine and do not need to rely on repeat customers. |

That's a good idea. I'd still prefer to find a cobbler with a decent reputation. If I can't, I'll definitely stay away from the guy outside of the SK building. |
