I'm going to be leaving for Korea in about a month. I'm a little skeptical of buying electronics in Asia because it is so easy to get ripped off. I'd like to buy a smartphone so I can use Skype. Nothing too fancy. I've found some models of smartphones I'd like to buy, but I'm afraid it's going to be too complicated to get the phone working in Korea if I bought it here in the US. I've gone shopping for phones in Thailand before and it's overwhelming because there are a million different choices, and the salesman doesn't know everything about the phone, can't speak English well enough to tell you, or they lie just to make a sale. Is this something I have to worry about in Korea? Would anybody recommend buying a phone in the US?

Many phones are not compatible for use in Korea, I understand its a bit of a worry however it's best to wait and get a phone when your in Korea. Somebody from your school should be able to assist you or at least point you in the right direction.
There are phone shops basically on every street therefore finding somewhere there as an English speaking member of staff shouldn't be to much of a hardship. Good luck.
