|
|
I've got major heartburn these days and need something to help. I've never had this problem before, so I don't know what Korea has to offer. I'm pregnant, so don't want to take anything hardcore, but Tums are considered OK for pregnant women. Anyone know the Korean equivalent? |

The red door in Itaewon sells Tums. I got a big bottle in my bathroom. They're great, and no Korean brand ever did anything for me. |

When I was pregnant here, I chewed gum. I could not find any 100% safe medication for heartburn. My doctor wouldn't even prescribe any meds for it. He told me to tough it out. But strangely enough, gum helped. |

Couple of suggestions....
The two things that will probably work for you if you want something off-the-shelf/over-the-counter are TALCID (chewable tablets like Tums, but not flavoured...), or sachets of liquid Mylanta...
Talcid is quite cheap - about 2-3000 won depending on where you buy them; available at any pharmacy.
If you have bad heartburn/acid reflux, you might want to ask your doctor about REVANEX...this is a blue pill you take first thing in the morning BEFORE eating anything, and believe me, you'll NEVER suffer heartburn again! Absolutely amazing stuff!
However, it is a prescription medicine here, so, being pregnant and all, you should get the OK from your doctor. |

Ask for Gal-pos at the pharmacy. It's more like Maelox or something - a liquid antacid in a bag... but it does the trick. |

My sis is a paramedic, and she's got some gastro-intestinal concerns, she swears by just plain milk for heartburn. Calcium is one of the active ingredients in TUMS and there's lots of that in milk. |

If anyone is in a pinch, and not far from Ganbyeon station/Techno mart, the old guy in the pharmacy there speaks English well. The pharmacy is just off to the left as you walk in the underground entrance.
Koreans will likely give you some tablets, powder, and/or a small drink to wash it down with if you ask for heartburn meds. It works... just a bit less convenient. |

Kimchi!
Actually any pharmacy will have little packages of stuff called "Alma gel Ef" and it has an AF symbol on the front. Sky-blue and tan packages.
It's a liquid goo. |
