hey guys,

has any Canadian recently re-new their E2 visa?

really would appreciate some help, answers, advise in this matter.

I will be renewing my contract at the same school (for the past 3 years),

because of the new regulation, now I need to get the RCMP check and my degree notarized and stamped at the Korean consulate back home ...
(when I came 4 years ago, I did the provincial venerable check and notarized my degree ... I dont think I got them stamped at the Korean embassy)

I will not be going back home anytime soon, so I am requesting a family member to help me with this

my questions are:
1. do I (or a family member) just bring my original degree + notarized photocopies to get them stamped at the Korean embassy or do I need to bring all the other documents as well? (photocopy of passport, original photo, E2 form, etc)
2. how long does the process take? (getting them approved/stamped at the Korean embassy) - is this something someone could just walk in and do or is there a waiting period?

I will be calling the Korean embassy in Toronto Monday night to ask ... but if someone already went through the process, I would appreciate any feedback

will post the embassy's answers next week as well

thanks in advance

I'm not sure about the first question, but I've never waited more than about 5-10 minutes to have something stamped at the consulate. You'll need a sealed university transcript. The wait is usually longer than the stamping.

I'm not sure about what it's like to have a third party get the stamp for you. I hope you're not renewing any time soon, background checks are very quick to get in-country but very time-consuming from overseas.

if time is of the essence and you are lucky...

a friend/family member living in canada may be able to do an in-country police check for you IF they can get a hold of the proper IDs to show the police when picking up the police check. (for example, if ur drivers license is at home where you mom can get it) - 2 IDs are required and you can select from a variety.

this is how it is in toronto

if this applies to you and to find out what these IDs can be, go to: https://webapp1.torontopolice.on.ca/ClearanceLetter/Submit and check under the "Clearance Letter Information"

I had my family mail in my documents to get notarized, but mine were sent to the Vancouver consulate. The requirements should be listed on the website, and I assume they are the same for in-person requests. From what I remember, you need $4 per copy, passport copy, transcripts, original degrees, and notarized copies.

As for the criminal record check: if the local police detachment won't give it to your family member, you can grant someone power of attorney and then they can get it for you at any detachment if they take the power of attorney form with them. You can use a form off of one of many legal websites (they charge a small fee), or you can do it properly by hiring a lawyer. I took the latter route and it cost me $100

thanks for the replies guys, really appreciated it

just called the Korean Consulate in Toronto ~

basically I explained to them that I am RENEWING my E2 visa (as oppose to getting an E2 visa)

and that I am in Korea and wont be coming back anytime soon

the person I talk to told me that I can have someone back home bring the documents to the consulate and have them stamp it.

What you need are:
- original degree
- notarized copy
- transcript
- copy of your passport

+ the fees ...

hope this helps
