I know that love motels are usually plentiful throughout Korea, especially near major stations. But I also know that sometimes when you don't need something it is always around yet when you need it you can't seem to find one.

So, anyone stayed in a half way decent motel close to Yongsan Station before? Like within walking distance? Or do I need to plan on going farther out?

Jump on a bus and get off a couple of stops later by Sookmyung Women's University. There is a bunch of them around there.

I should be more specific. Don't get off by the university, but by the station. You should see Giordano. Behind that road (parallel to the main road), there are a number of motels. One is even imaginatively named 'Love Motel'. Probably best to sleep on top of the covers lol.

Do they still have the red light district across the street from Yongsan Station or did the police close that down?

Don't get caught in there.

I was surprised to walk into this area at night one time as it is so close to where the normal public goes on about their daily lives.

the red light district has been torn down. Think most of the love motels are gone too though there might be one or two down near the wedding hall by the Han

back to the OP there are 3 good hotels up at Namyeong Station on Line 1, i stop from Yongsan, the Kaya, Rainbow and one other newer one that I cant recall the name of. A cab will cost 3000 won max from Yongsan

forgot to add the Kaya and Rainbow are around 60-80k/nite not sure what your budget is. The Kaya used to gear towards USFK people

If you go across the main drag from the Kaya (or take a right out of Namyeong Station and go to where the road dead ends into the main drag) there are a few love motels right across from the wall of Yongsan Garrison, I don't know the prices but I run by them every day and they seem ok

Thanks again, but I thought it over and decided to stay closer to the airport. I went online and was able to find a fairly nice place in Airport Town Square for 67K, and they offer a free shuttle - just more convenient for my sure to be jetlagged self. My flight arrives around 9pm, and I figure after going through customs and catching a bus to Yongsan Station, it could be close to midnight before I got there, and still have to find a place to boot. The whole reason I wanted to be close To Yongsan Station is because I am meeting my girlfriend there, but not until the next day. I will just ride there on the subway from Unseo Subway station, which is a five minute walk from the hotel.

Cheers.
