I'm hearing different things about this. I'm staying another year at my school... I did the entire visa process about fourteen months ago, with the medical check, criminal background, etc (this was through another school, then I did a visa transfer a few months later).

Do I need another medical exam to simple extend my visa another year??

NOT for immigration.
Maybe for your employer.

Immigration wants:
ARC
passport
new contract
application
fee (30k for an extension)
business registration (copy)
letter of guarantee (sponsorship form).

.

As Ttom mentioned in a different, related thread, it seems that the Ministry of Education now wants their own medical checks, as of February, 2012 -- if you are a new hire, you can use the medical check you got for your visa, but if you have been here, apparently you need a new one. I went in just today to get mine done, and I had renewed back in September 2011. Jan. 31st IS prior to February, after all.... Smile

Is it possible to just provide a photocopy of your earlier test?

I was told that if they weren't a "current" test, then no -- so if your test was a few months ago, then you might be able to use a copy, but if they are older than a few months, then I would say no (my own tests from September were deemed too old).

My girlfriend is with SMOE at the end of a 10 month contract. She has to go for another medical today as she is renewing.

Who should pay for it? I can't remember who paid for the first one.

It must be from February 1 then.

I know two people who renewed in January without having to do any of that.

Our school told both my husband and I after a year that we had to get another medical. It seemed rather random though and nobody even mentioned that it had anything to do with renewal. We just played dumb and waited for someone to take us to the hospital. Nobody ever took us and it was never mentioned again after the first time. We find that lots of things like this happen. Just go along with it and wait and see what happens, don't rush out and get it on your own. "I didn't know" works great.

If you are with a public school, you have to get a NEW medical check each time you renew your contract. Personally, I think it's dumb and a waste of money, but a smart move by the gov't as they are getting an estimated 1.6billion won a year (80,000won per medical check X 20,000 NSETs).

Some clinics accepts your medical insurance when told that they wouldn't. The only one I know of is the international clinic at Konkuk University.

What exactly does the medical check entail? Is it just a normal physical and urine test?
