My degree will not be conferred until mid-June, and I hear applications for EPIK start up in April. Is this going to be a problem? Can I start looking for non-EPIK jobs if I haven't received my degree yet? Thanks everyone.

OP: When do you expect to have your actual diploma (not the completed transcripts and not a registrar's letter verifying graduation) in hand? I graduated in June 2004 and the diploma itself was delivered in November 2004. As ttompatz said, you're not going to have any luck until you have that.

For Americans gettting their CBC and having it apostilled is a time-consuming process, especially if you send it by mail. For both the FBI office that conducts the background check and the State Department office that issues the apostille, there is a five week delay in the mail room (for irradiation treatment of all mail). That means at least ten weeks of processing before you can expect to have it back. The alternative is to pay a service to hand-deliver the application to the FBI and another service to hand-deliver the completed background check to the State Department.

I found that it takes 3 months to actually receive the diploma, so I should get it mid-September. So I guess I can't start looking for jobs until then. Will it be difficult to find a job during that part of the year? I guess I'll wait on the CBC for a bit since it only lasts for 6 months.

Also remember its YOUR STATE's Sec of State (or should I say the state where your degree is from) that will do the apostille for your diploma, those take considerably less time than the US State Dept. which must apostille FBI checks.
