Hey friends!

I'm in the market for a new computer. I have a bit of cash saved up and I'm tired of this netbook.

Ideally, I'd like to get something like an iMac, but as those are very expensive, I'd like to do the windows/PC equivalent. I don't need it to be an all-in-one like the iMac; a separate monitor and box works fine. Also, I want it to be fairly powerful so that I can do video editing...

Here's what I'm thinking:

At least 6G RAM.
27 inch monitor with excellent resolution.
Good processor.
Wireless keyboard/mouse.
Nice speakers.
Price range: around a million won.. hopefully! Smile

Anyone have any ideas? Where should I look?
Also, I don't mind buying the parts separately, but I want the "box" to come fully assembled. I don't want to be installing graphics cards or ram or...

Thanks for any ideas in advance!

Chet, if you're bored, fire me a PM. Let's head to Yongsan and I'll show you a few respectable vendors you can have build you a machine.

For the money, I'd suggest an Intel I-5 2500 system. Graphics cards... I'll leave that up to suggestions by others who are into them at the moment.

Here is a decent online vendor, but not the cheapest:

Another:

As for a monitor, if you go 27", DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT settle for a 1080p monitor. You need higher resolution than that at 27" for computer viewing, or it will look like suck. Go with something 2560x1440 at least. Here is an example:

You can also get that model with HDMI, if you think you need it.

I good 27" monitor is going to suck up a lot of that 1 million budget (250 -450,000 Won). You wont be able to get a decent video editing PC for a million won, sorry.

I just finished ordering parts for a gaming PC last week. I didn't even go really top end and I spent 2.2 million.

I would bump your price ceiling up to 1.5, you would be able to get a mid-range rig for that, including the price of a monitor.

i totally disagree. These days, even an average CPU is plenty for video editing in HD. Once a Passmark CPU mark of around 4,200 to 4,400 is reached, you've basically achieved "enough speed" IMHO. The Core I5 2500 is well above that. There is no need for more, nor is there need for a high-end video card given what he's doing.

I edit HD video with more than enough speed on my 2 year-old I5 750 machine, which is a fair share slower than an I-5 2500 machine. I've got 6gb of ram and a 60,000 won graphics card. Even that machine is slower than my wife's upgraded AMD 960T machine where I've over clocked the CPU just with the multiplier a smidge to 3.4ghz. He could get into a machine like my wife's for not more than 550,000 won. Plus monitor and keyboard, he's still be well under a million.

I'm sure you have your needs, and more power to you, but IMHO, to pay Korean prices for top-of-the-line stuff is ludicrous, given the returns.
