It appears that KEB now lets you use a simple login/password to use their internet banking software. Finally! No more keyloggers and other useless junk!
Has anyone tried setting up a login/password yet? Is logging in with login/password different than the old certificate method (ie. crippled site)? |

actually you could always login that way but your online banking options are limited. |

What sort of limitations?
I use it to check balance, see three months past history, and do wire transfers to Canada. Are these limited? Is there a comparison page on their site? |

You still need the digital certificate if you want to transfer money.
Login/Pass is only good enough to check balance. |

Damn. Well, maybe one day they will let me transfer money with a login and password like Canada. |

Always disable your anti virus and firewall before going to internet banking in korea. They install their own firewall . If you do not disable your pc firewall you get into trouble. |

I've never had to disable my own anti-virus or firewall to use KEB internet banking. Nor, would I recommend that people do.
I would never trust a Korean personal firewall to solely protect my computer. Is it an actual firewall they install? I call it a piece of obtrusive unrated piece of software crap.
The only trouble I would find is unwelcome spyware. |

When I use the KEB software on my Mac (it's an actual application you download, not through a browser) I am prompted to turn my firewall on before the program will run. |

I do all my banking in a VMWare image. The banks can install as much crapware as they want and it's isolated from the rest of my system. If it every stops working I can just restore from backup. |

Guys I agree with you in some ways
but If you do not want to disable your firewall you need to
add those softwares to your trusted zone or sooner or later
You will have conflicts. |

So I decided to try this KEB Mac application out. It's written entirely in Java and it's basically not at all Mac-like. But it seems to work. Better than booting up a Windows virtual machine.
So congratulations KEB, the first (AFAIK) Korean bank to support the Mac! |

Had trouble wiring money home today. It worked a few times before.
This time it wouldn't verify my digital certificate and I had to Ctrl-Alt-Delete my browser closed. Do I have to turn off my anti-virus now? That's lame.
I have to use my work computer for this banking because I have a mac at home.
How does this mac program work? It says it is not in English. Why not? Koreans can't use mac anyway because their internet doesn't work well with mac.
I hate Korean internet banking. But I don't want to spend the few extra won at the bank branch. Annoying. Why don't they fix their internet? |

The Mac program is entirely in English. Make sure you are logged in to their English website in order to get the English version.
I can't seem to figure out how to do an overseas money transfer using the program. It gives an error. I'll call KEB when I actually need to transfer money. For now, checking my balance is all I need.
FYI: The internet works the exact same on both Macs and PCs. It's lazy Korean web developers that don't code their sites properly. |

WARNING: KEB banking with just login and password (no certificate) might not be secure.
I just noticed the URL is http://bank.keb.co.kr/index_en.jsp. I can't believe KEB isn't using SSL (indicated by https://) for their non-certificate banking. This has to be a mistake.
Is it possible they are encrypting the details some other way (using one of the programs you're forced to install)? Am I missing something or did they really **** up? |
