I think standard silver fillings are about 100,000 a piece without any kind of insurance, and ceramic are multiples more. Not cheap, but I don't know what they cost back in America anymore either. |

Wait for your vacation time, fly to Bangkok, have the same quality of work done for 1/4 or 1/10 of the price, pay cash and enjoy a few days in the sun.
I had 13 fillings done in a single session (my bad) and paid around $275 for that. Nice work too, all fillings colour matched to my teeth. And that was a dentist operating in a shopping mall. |

nice!
i gotta ask though:
1.) clean/professional?
2.) English service? ( i have some cosmetic stuff that i had done and need to make sure they understand my records... it was a pricey investment and don't want to risk any damage )

What can I say? I used to be terribly scared of dentist (hence the need for 13 fillings ) and I only went to this guy for a cleaning. The setup was a small counter at the front and a well equipped, modern and clean practice in the back. Dentist spoke fluent English and certificates on the wall showed that he went to a US university. English proficiency might be a good way to check the authenticity f the certificate, too. General impression was good.
Good enough at least that I came back for 2 bridges, of course that was more expensive (about $2,500 total) but I chose 2nd best option (out of 4) and also he needed to cap 4 teeth to anchor the bridges and cut 2 more (implants would have been easier but that was much more expensive and really, really scared me).
However: A friend of mine went to the same doctor on my recommendation (he's more scared than even I am) and was extremely unhappy with the results, pain levels etc. He later went to another doctor and had 6 or 8 implants made (I think he needed to be drugged silly for that) and waspractically ecstatic about the workmanship, pain management etc. Pricing was higher though.
Long procedures require several flights to Thailand or a few weeks' stay, so the financial savings won't be there. But IF you're there (I am several times each year) and have a day to spare, give it a try. |

implants are a hassle, right? i heard you have to have all your teeth extracted. then they put a titanium bar under your gums... you gotta wait for this to heal and bond with your jawbone. then a year later you go back and they cut you open and screw in titanium teeth with ceramic tops?
will definitely check out some fillings later this year. i should be in BKK this summer for maybe a month or two. |

I have terrible teeth and had every single filling replaced about 10 years ago in korea. I think there were 28 or 29 in total and i paid about 1 million won. It took about four weeks to get everything done. 10 years later and no problems. |

I went to a local dentist down the street. My husband had gotten his wisdom teeth removed by the same guy a bit earlier and he seemed OK. It was in Incheon and I think the clinic has moved. At one point he wasn't too generous with the novacain and I had to refuse to let him do anymore work till I got another shot.
I have since changed dentists. I LOVE this guy. He's super gentle. That being said I haven't had a filling or another other work done except for routine cleanings and checkups. He's in Gwangmyung but possibly moving if he finds the right situation. He speaks English well enough that you won't have any problems. PM for his number. |

Over all the price here in Korea is ok. Still some advice.
1. Get a second opinion. One dentist will say you will need 3 fillings, while another will say you need 2, a third might say 3 but for 3 different teeth. So get a check out and opinion from 2 or 3 dentists.
2. Dentists will up sell. Gold baby! The will talk all of the cons of ceramic and try and get you to go with gold. Your choice!
3. English is nice, but expect to get modicum ability. Likely no English from staff. Because you will find the many of the staff will be the ones you deal with majority of the times. The staff will do the check in, then prep, then cleaning, expect the English speaking dentist to rush in do some drilling them disappear.
Overall unless you have the time and money to fly to another cheaper country - Korea is pretty fine. Good middle of the road. |

Perhaps you should have left this part out of your confession. Now we imagine you looking like this:

I agree 100%!! I've had terrible teeth all of my life, so I KNOW what I need when I go to a dentist. I've been to a couple in Korea who have said "You need this and this and this and this and this...." And I'm like "Um...no, I don't." And I move on.
Shop around. Go to at LEAST 2 different dentists if not 3 or 4, especially if you're not all that familiar with dental work. Be sure to ask about price! If you need a quick filling, almost anyone will do but if you need more extensive work, it pays to shop around.
I'm lucky that I found a fantastic dentist in Cheonan and have been going to him for over 10 years now. If you want info and you're in the area, PM me and I'll give you directions. I have to travel about 40 minutes to get to him but he's worth it! |
