The sticky for this is a little dated... just want to make sure the same rules apply.

Do I have to have a return ticket to my home country (US) to have the money wired to my US account? I did not plan on going home, but I did plan on leaving... I've heard both cases ... but like I said, the sticky has posts from 3 years ago regarding the issue and things tend to change around here.

Hope someone can help.

3 Minutes use of google and clicking around.

http://english.nps.or.kr/jsppage/english/scheme/scheme_04.jsp

Quote:
If a foreigner applies for a lump-sum refund because he/she is going to return to his/her home country, the lump-sum refund will be paid as long as the NPS can confirm that the person has left Korea. However, if he/she submits the required materials such as airplane tickets verifying his/her departure within one month, he/she will be able to apply for the refund before leaving Korea.

Also please double check that your place of employment has been paying. Consider making a visit or a call. Info is on the website.

I called the office and was told two difference things from two different offices. This is why I'm asking if anyone has done it recently.

I am in Korea, contract is completed the 29th of Feb... I don't want to apply for the lump sum and go to say Bangkok, only to find out that the sum won't be paid because I didn't present a ticket for the US.. that make sense? Head is going to explode trying to understand all this.

Ticket leaving Korea
ARC
passport
bank information for the deposit

They will confirm your departure/cancellation of your visa, ensure that any remaining contributions are complete (can delay things by up to 90 days if your employer is slow to remit) and forward the balance to you.

Timing is also important. How long will you be away. How long till pension office deposits.

Dang Tom got to it.

ESL search. Little clicking and change of settings of search parameters.

A about ten basic possibilities to read..
Here are two.

On the bank info for deposit, I don't have a bankbook for back home here in Korea. I went in like I was going to the bank: with just the routing and account number written on a piece of paper.

They wouldn't accept it. They said they would take a receipt from wire transfer.

So, I took a taxi to the nearest KEB, transferred some money (using the numbers I had written on the piece of paper), and went back.

No problem.

I guess they want to avoid trouble with people making a mistake when they write the number down on their own who would cause trouble later on wondering why the money never made it to their account once they are home...

Do you need to present an actual airline ticket at the pension office or can you bring a copy of the receipt or flight confirmation/itinerary?

e-tickets (itinerary and receipt) are fine.

They don't actually do anything (like forward your money) till they confirm that you have left the country and your visa was canceled/expired.

I figured as much. Just wanted to make sure an e-ticket was sufficient. Thanks!
