|
|
Hi. I'm planning to apply for the fall EPIK intake this year (taking a TEFL course in the summer), but I was also think about applying to hagwons for any opening in May/June. Honestly, I'd prefer starting at this time so i don't have those months of downtime.
However, I vaguely remember hearing that it isn't a good idea to apply to other jobs while trying to work with EPIK. Anyone know if this is true or if I'm just remembering a bunch of crap? |

I think you're confusing it with the multiple recruiter/multiple application thing. Submitting more than one application to EPIK can result in rejection.
Or perhaps, you mean the section on the application where it asks you if you're applying to other programs as well. Just say no. |

If you're willing to wait at all to get into EPIK, then wait until you know whether or not you're getting in before applying for hagwons. If you apply for both at the same time, you'll almost certainly get the hagwon job first.
And if you accept the hagwon job and later find out that you've been accepted by EPIK, you'll almost certainly not be able to apply for EPIK again if you back out. |

Thanks for the help, thought I had remembered wrong. Any recommendations for something just starting out in the TEFL field? I know there are horror stories about some hagwons, but just as many seem pretty good to their employees. I'm not going into this completely blind to teaching (tutor experience, plus TA in a high school), so not having EPIK's orientation doesn't bother me too much. |

As a potential first timer considering the exact same thing, I second this question. |
