I want to mail a violin back to thge USA. I know there's some kind of change in policy for mailing musical instriments. I'd carry it in with me on the plane but I'm already carrying another. I heard you maybe have to list the materials of the violins when you send it or some such stuff. I'm also considering mailing a guitar back if its not too expensive.

I'd love some feedback. Anybody have experience with this?

Thank You!

I mailed a Kurzweiler electronic keyboard to the USA, but it was quite expensive, not to mention the price of a suitable case. I imagine a guitar would be lighter and cheaper.

Not exactly applicable, but a friend flew here Air Canada with his banjo, and when he arrived it had been hacked-open... LITERALLY. The agents, probably checking for drugs, used what appeared to be a crow bar (there were marks where they just hacked into the wood) to rip it in two and send it on its way.

That's why it's recommended to use cases with a TSA lock for instruments (although I doubt that would matter here).

It wasn't the case that was hacked open. It was the instrument itself.

Well, that's pure negligence. What did your friend do?
