Hi,

I'm doing a second year in Busan, teaching in the Centum city area.

Just wondering if i should take the apartment the school is offering (i've seen no pics yet) or take the housing allowance.

Could i get a modern studio/apartment, doesn't have to be big for 3-400,000 won a month? It could be anyway from Namcheon subway 211 to Jangsan 201?

Ideally i'd love to be on the beach, but i just want it to be modern and clean.

Thanks in advance

For that price, in the areas you named (not in centum city however, thats not gonna happen lol) you can get a smallish place.

Do you have any key money to put down?

Where is the school proviced accomodation located? What size is it?

I looked at apartments in the areas you are talking about very recently.

First off check out the apartment they are providing. If it's nice then take it. You probably won't save money finding your own place if you want to live in a nice area. If it's not that great you might find something better. I've noticed that okay apartments and nice apartments often have similar prices.

Think of 5 million key money and 500,000 as an average for a decent officetel in Haeundae. You will see some with lower rents, but the building fees (gwalibi) are high. Gwangan should be a little cheaper.

When I was looking I saw some decent one rooms in the 5million / 450,000 range. One was in Gwangan and had a nice big outdoor veranda.

The cheapest place I found was a small one room in Suyeong for 3million / 300,000.

The prices vary by area. What you pay for a one room officetel in Haeundae can get you a two-room near Kyungsung uni. and parts of Gwangan.

If you are looking for cheap options, Check Banyeo-dong, Jaesong-dong, Allak-dong, and Dongnae. All are close to centum city and you can find some very cheap apartments.
