obviously the eiffel tower, louve, musee d'orsay etc will be on the list as my wife hasn't been before.

anything off the beaten track or weird and wonderful?

Musee Rodin

I'm sure there's a Toulouse Le Trec Museum somewhere near Monmartre, Moulin Rouge, and the old Red Light District

Tuilieries

French Open Tennis Center is not far from Eiffel Tower I believe.

Jardin du Luxembourg contains the first model of the Statue of Liberty.

Brings back memories of my travel there and French studies.

5 days are too short to truly experience the city and all of its wonders. You'll really feel rushed and the trip may not be worth it.

There's Versailles Palace, Jardin de Monet and various castles of the Loire Valley that should be experienced by bus tour or train 40 min-1 hour outside the edge of Paris.

You'll really be hurried and won't have time to relax I imagine.

Versailles is a fantastic day trip, a huge highlight for me, but you could easily stay in Paris the whole time.

I love the Canal St. Martin for a walk. Maybe a bit cold right now, but the Velib city bikes are great for cruising around, although Paris traffic is a bit aggressive.

I met this guy...

...through a language school and he is fantastic if you're interested in some sort of tour. Crazy local knowledge and a great sense of humour.

i've been to most of the famous paris sights before and while i'm happy to do them again for my wife, i'd still like to see some new things.

versailles is the main one at the moment, maybe the catacombs although i've heard so-so reports about the experience.

frankly i hate art galleries but she is dying to see the louvre and then the rodin/van gough stuff. i need an escape from those.
