What would you do if you found or stole an iPhone or Galaxy Tab?

Would you keep it and use it as a media player because you can't activate it as a phone because its been reported stolen.

Would you take it to the police station or authorized dealer and let them find the owner.

Would you try to contact the owner searching the info inside the device?

Would you try to sell it online for a quick 100,000 profit?

I'd use the contacts list and return it that way, if possible. If that didn't work, I'd go to an apple shop or the phone carrier shop and find the original owner through the serial number. This would suck if it'd been resold, but it'd be better than nothing.

I've returned three or four phones, and two of them were smart phones. I've also had my smart phone returned, after I left it on a bus. My friend found a wallet in a taxi the other day, and gave it to the driver. I'd have gone to the police station, but she still didn't keep it.

I'm not sure about Android devices but iOS devices let you choose your own contact as the main one. Look that up and see if there is an email address or a physical address you can look up and email it/bring it to there.

Alternatively, go to the recent text messages and text one or two of the contacts and let them know that you've found their friends/family/associates phone.

If those failed (such as if there is a passcode lock), take it to the carrier (ie. olleh) and they can look up the owner information based on the SIM card. Make sure to go to an official store since the resellers might not be interested in bothering looking for that info.

I'd try calling someone from the contacts list. If that failed, hand it in to the cops.

I could never enjoy stolen property.

**Interesting tangent story warning.**

Hey I have 3 hrs desk time to kill, so shoot me.

I was at the Casino 2 weeks ago. Won about 250k. Cashed out and walked past the slots and put my odd chun won note into one thinking 'hey what the heck - who knows?'

I spin the reels and notice I have 40 credits (20k won) and realise that someone had been playing it before me and had left that credit in. I had a smoke and waited 10 - 15 mins and it was obvious nobody was coming back. Spun those 40 credits and won 80K

I then realised what I had done (it was 12.45am and I was vereh vereh dwunk.) I had stolen.

I waved one of the slots pit bosses over and told them that this money wasn't mine, but the peson whom had left the 20k won in there and could they check the video to see if they could track him down through his membership card id. They checked the video and said he left 2 hrs ago and was not a member. So they took back the 20kwon and gave me the 60k in winnings.

Took it home and thought' Meh, if the guy returns he gets his 20k back, the casino can afford any tiny loss and whilst the guy should have this 60k, it's not enough for anyone to worry about - and if it is their life is probably screwed anyhow.'

Anyway I just couldn't keep it. I had commited an act and obtained that money in bad faith. Went back the weekend after and explained and asked them to try and track the guy down and give it to him. They said it was impossible so I asked them to give it to their charity (any monies unclaimed after a week, they give to poor pople / orphanages etc.)

Then I sat down and won 410k playing blackjack and roullette. Yeah boyee.

That is an interesting story. Nice to see you got rewarded (in casino winnings, that is) for doing the right thing, too.

If I was at a business then I would give it to one of the workers and tell then someone left it. If I found it in public, I would leave it where it is.

One time I life my laptop bag at a bus stop in Mokdong. AFter getting on the bus and going an couple stops I realized it was gone. I immediately went back to the bus stop. I'd say 30 minutes went by. Sure enough, my laptop bag is still sitting right there. No one picked it up, no one took it.

Great question!

I must say, if I were to steal an Iphone, my actions thereafter would be slightly different than if I were to find one;)

I would never steal an iPhone to begin with.

If I were to find one I would try to return it to the owner. I've lost my phone (not an iPhone) before and no one bothered to try to return it. It really takes only a minute to find the owner. Just call the recent numbers back. Then meet them at a time and place convienent for you.

Unless you have no reasonable chance of returning the phone to said owner, the I would say yes. BUT a phone has multiple ways to return from via returning to company/carrier. Snooping and finding contact details, charging and waiting for a call from the panicked owner. Make the effort and return it!

Overall Korea is a not bad about theft. Korean will not steal from you, cheat and scam you yes, but outright steal - not often.

If it isn't cold, hard cash just sitting in the middle of the road, I try to return it.

I had that happen to me and even then I tried to return. I found an envelope with about 150,000 won. It was on the road. I was surprised, well I searched the envelope for any clue - nothing all plain, no paper inside, just money. Went that extra mile and decided to wait about 10 minutes and see if some panicked looking person came running by. Saw nobody and I looked. Mine in the end.

A wallet I would return to owner or police if possible. Actually I have a nice little sticker in my wallet in Koren saying - take the money, return the wallet and cards, I will be happy.

I think people need to mark more of their goods. Consider adding some labels to you wallet and phone (battery area?).

Interestingly, I too have a sticker in my wallet.
It says, "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you return my wallet with all of its contents intact, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you. "

So far my wallet has always been returned... sometimes with extra money in it.
