I have had Thrunet for about three months now. It has to be the worst ISP I've ever had and I was wondering how others have fared.

But before I ditch them, I am open to the suggestion that it might be me rather than them. So, how does this sound to you?

Used their [email protected] email address supplied and
cannot send to many US destination addresses
get tons of virus laden emails (2 or 3 a day)
get a lot of mail returned to me even within Korea
people complain they write to me and it bounces back even within Korea
Norton is detecting several attempts a day to breach my firewall
Trojans sometimes attack several hundred times an hour (despite my machine being clean) which takes up CPU with the firewall blccking each attempt
I hate the junkmail that Thrunet posts EVERYWHERE in my neighbourhood

Two questions
Should I ditch them asap?
If so, who should I sign up with?

Abandon the e-mail addy but you might want to consider keeping the ISP as a whole. I used to have Thrunet, and now have KT ( it's the only ISP that will provide service to the henhouse). I've gotta say, I found thrunet far more reliable than KT.

If you do abandon, you might consider ONSE

I've had them for the last 7 months after numerous problems with KT and Hanaro. It sometimes seems slower than KT was, but it is 100% reliable, and that is what I wanted after the last debacle. I was best friends with the KT support guy by the end of it.

also they are a smaller company, so perhaps they care more about your custom. I don't know this for sure, cause I haven't had any problems yet, but I imagine their customer service would be good, otherwise how could they survive in Korea?

Kt VDSL. The fastest commercial connection. Cool (T1, T3, etc...are not really commercial, or should I say residential?)
Never had a problem. However, VDSL requires there to be a fibre cable within 1 Km of your house...a bit limiting for some, depending on where you live.
I have always used Kt...went with Shinbiro once...no problems, but service sucked when I did have a problem.

I found Thrunet much more reliable than KT.
I also let my schoool call to order my service. Thrunet has different levels of service and my school chose the cheapest option of course.

On the e-mail front I have a Yahoo address and a hotmail address. I have Outlook and Incredimail to access hotmail. Only 4 people have my hotmail address. I have configured hotmail and Incredimail to ignore any mails that come from people that aren't in my address list. In addition Incredimail is configured to bounce any mail not on my list. Kind of double firewalled if it's necessary. Incredimail checks with hotmail every 5 mins (I chose that time) so I get a desktop notification pretty quickly when any of the favoured four mail me.

The features with outlook and Incredimail are superior to Yahoo but Yahoo allows bigger attatchments. Hotmail will still be there when/if you leave Thrunet.

Incredimail (my default e-mail prog) deletes all messages on Hotmail at a period of time of my choosing - this solves the low storage problem of hotmail. I have it delete them after a couple of days.

I don't know if this helps you but I haven't been able to get the help I'd need to set up Thrunet as an smtp for my e-mails so I evaded the problem by using Hotmail. The security features and other features of free Incredimail and Outlook are way superior to Yahoo but Yahoo has the storage and bulk mail features make it great for handling everyday stuff.

I found a crack which upgraded my Incredimail to Incredimail XE at this site:
Lunatic.org

It'll probably come up again or you can search for it. Meantime there are many e-mail programs besides Incredimail and they show up on this site with cracks.

I hope I've helped here. I've read two posts about people with problems with Hanmail. Use hotmail and a good email prog which empties their limited storage bin at the correct pace for your incoming. Use their security features too especially the option to not open attatchments when a mail is opened. This is not default on Incredimail.

Latest (5.5 cracked) version of Window Washer Now available.

All links worked just now.

Thanks everyone for the replies so far. Looks like I'm the only one having issues with Thrunet.

I have pretty much decided to abandon the email they supply. We have hotmail and use outlook to access that. We drag emails from there into Outlook to get around the storage issue.

No one else had Trojan activity with Thrunet as I described then?

I think you can configure outlook to erase the messages for you when it gets them or after a certain time. So many options and preferences that I forget where and even am not sure if. Maybe someone knows how to do this?
