|
|
Getting a bit tired of using my phone's tethering capability for an Internet connection, so I'm looking to get properly connected.
Living in yongsan, does anyone have any recommendations on the best deals? Either Internet or an Internet/TV package (nothing fancy) would be fine...
TIA |

If you are not in a villa then who has your building wired?
If you are in a villa then KT is better for hitting North American sites.
Domestically or for use to Asian sites it doesn't matter.
SK and KT have similar packages. (30k+ depending on the size of the bandwidth you want).
Your local cable provider will have 2-10mbps service along with TV for about 15-20k.

None has this building wired..
I'm not needing any major bandwidth, just something cheap and that works.. if I don't get any local service provider recommendations then I'll check out the KT and SK next week.
When you say 15-20k do you mean on top of the 30k internet charge? I'd be happy paying <30k for internet & TV if that's possible. |

I don't know about your specific cable provider but most of them have a cable/internet package from 15-20k per month.
It is NOT as fast as DSL/VDSL so speeds are usually in the 2-6 mbps range rather than DSL/VDSL/FTTH at 10-100-1000 mbps.

It's been years, but I lived in that area and had good luck with the local cable provider. The thing is, I don't know how their overseas connections are. I would find the name of the local cable TV provider, which will be the cheapest, then post on here asking about overseas connections.
As mentioned, the overseas connection has become the bottleneck with many providers. Basically, KT is better at it now. SK has a long, long ping and stinks. This all came about after several communications cables were lost in the Japan Tsunami last year. KT seems to have suffered the least. |

Be aware that as per my lost thread, KT are filtering even the most innocuous sites these days. I can no longer access Photobucket, for example.
I don't really care about the sites per se, but is is censorship which we weren't asked or told about these changes (or given a choice to opt-put or cancel our service; it does change the terms of service, something that we as customers aren't allowed to do [read: break or alter the contract]) before they were enacted. A bit draconian, IMO. |

I use my local cable company - i get 10mbps internet (good by western standard, slow by K standard, but it does me) and i have a fairly ok tv channel package included in my apt monthly charge - that is cleaning, water and maintenance for 50k a month, but the package itself is like 22000 or something!
I have had some problems with my modems but they came out the next day after I called them and it was fixed straight away. Overseas websites no problem. They do call and send me emails a lot to upgrade the packages to 500mpbs or something crazy and another 25000tv channels for 50000extra month and so on (slight exaggeration haha) but overall i find better than when I had SK in my old place. |

Just want to post an update on my situation..
Got connected with C&M (100M internet and some TV channels), 17,000+tax a month for 2 years. If you connect before March it's this price (promotion), otherwise it goes up to about 30,000 a month.
