Hey folks,
Has anyone had experience transporting a pet from Korea to Canada (or elsewhere)? I called Air Canada cargo office in Seoul, who told me that I have to use a "pet relocation service" who will arrange it, and gave me several numbers.
That sounds expensive and unnecessary. Is it possible to make the arrangements directly with the airline? |

How big is the cat? If it is small enough you can take them in cabin. If they are too large then they can go under the plane like a checked bag. Airlines change there policies about pets often so figure out who you're flying with and call them. If the pet is flying in cabin you're supposed to let them know as they aonly allow X number of animals in cabin at a time.
I assume you will be traveling with the cat? If not, then yes, to ship a pet out of Korea you have to use a service.
There are a few In Korea and even some vet's can do it. We've shipped 3-4 dogs to rescues in Canada and the U.S using one( I'll get the details from my wife later) And the animals have always arrived safe and not too stressed. The girl we deal with speaks English well, is always extremely helpful and professional.
Overall cats are not much of a hassle to traveling. |

Ok thanks. He's a big fella, so I think he'll have to travel down below.
Just to clarify, if I'm travelling with the pet, I can deal directly with the airline? And if I'm not, the relocation services are my only option? |

Depends on who you are flying with AND whether you need to take a domestic flight AFTER you get to Canada.
The ONLY way to know is to check with each airline individually. Policies are inconsistent and change from time to time. Also make sure that when you contact the airline you ensure that you are TAKING not SHIPPING the animal (it makes a big difference in the answer you get from the Korean staff you have to deal with here).

To further clarify, I won't be with the cat. I have to send him home earlier than when I'm leaving, due to weather restrictions. Air Canada Cargo seems to deal with this, according to the website, but like I said, when I called the Korean office, they told me to call a pet relocation service.
The cat will also need a domestic flight once in Canada. He is going out east, most likely with a connection in Vancouver or Toronto. |

You would have to use a pet relocation service. It is a bit expensive (around $700 when my friend did it) but they are really good at caring for the pet and making sure they are safe for the journey.
What have you heard about hot weather no fly times? I heard it's May to September. I will be sending my cat next year, so she will have to go before the cut off. |
