So I'm at the six month mark after my first year in and I'm EXTREMELY happy! I've settled in, complete with a boyfriend, and don't plan on moving back anytime soon.

That being said, I do want to visit the States for a month (and take the Mr. with me).

My contract is finished at the end of August and the visa expires on 9/16/12.

As I want to visit, I'd ideally want to start teaching again in October. I'm only interested in hagwons or university. I really doubt I'd be able to take a month off at my hagwon now with resigning (and I want the free airfare home and back that I'd get with a new school).

So for those that had the break in between....

Did you transfer your visa or reapply for a new one altogether? I'd really rather not mess with all the documents again, but can I transfer with such a break in between teaching dates?

Thanks.

I doubt you will get both flight and time off. So, pick one. Either complete everything, go home, get new documents and re-apply, or negotiate something. Leave your contract earlier. This will give you time to go home and return before the new school contract period starts.

I do not think you would find a university position due to the fact that you would want to start there one month AFTER a new semester had already started. Shocked

Very true on the uni.

This is probably a question I'm answering myself, BUT...to transfer my visa I'd have to start working on 9/16/2012 (or before), right? I can't have a lapse of two weeks, can I (approximately Oct 1)?

That is up to immigration. The guideline is to keep it continuous, but there have been exceptions. You can't plan it, find the school you want to transfer to and hope for the best.

Also, the second option I gave to leave your current contract earlier would allow you to get a uni job.

Good to know, thanks. Leaving early isn't an option, honestly. For one, the school has been really good to me AND I don't want to have to pay back the airfare and security deposit. ( Slash I want my severance bonus, too.)

Wait- are you staying with the same school? If so then work things out with the director. Explain how you enjoy working there and how you need some time home to enjoy long-lost family time.

If not, then just leave and try to have a job set up for when you return. Start your documents in April

Hmm I think, if you're leaving the country, you kiss that visa status goodbye as you hand in your ARC. You'd probably have to start from scratch, give immigration a holler to confirm you don't need to resubmit the CBC all over again. You'd probably need to start the application process for the new job before you leave Korea.
