I'm a lowly E-2 holder at the moment, but might be getting married and having an F-2 visa. What are my opportunities and options as to work with my new visa? |

Register with the Ministry of Education and you can teach private lessons. Of course, your contract will probably forbid it. But you won't get deported for it. |

FYI -- you will not be an F-2-1. You will become an F-6, which is what all of the F-2-1 married people are being changed to as they renew. Basically the same thing, different title (a few benefits, like you can keep your visa more easily if your partner dies, etc).
So you will not be an F-2-1. You will need a photo over a white background, by the way. There is a photo booth that costs 6,000 won at the location I use (Anguk station in Seoul). |

You will have more flexibility in terms of employment as you will be on a residency visa. You will still need to meet the requirements of the E2 to get teaching jobs but will not be restricted to one employer who sponsors you.
You will be able to legally teach private lessons by registering as a private tutor. That means the income you earn with such lessons will be declared and taxed (income tax). |

This made me think about when I was teaching in USA. I had many pets. One of the teachers had many kids. She said, "People who have many pets really want children and are trying to replace children with pets." So I said, "People who have many children really want pets and are trying to replace pets with children."
And I had a Japanese student who had problems with [w]. He often said, "I hate my wife." When I pointed out he was syaing "wife" not "life", he said, "I hate her too." |
