Hi, sorry to make my first post here a question, but as I'm still on the other side of the world I haven't got anything useful to say about Korea yet.

Question: What is the best/worst time to come to Korea in search of a teaching job?

For me the ideal time to arrive would be early September; how would this work out regarding schools looking for teachers, or is there an ongoing demand?

I'm 42 and not North American, but have about 8 years experience teaching English in Latin America plus a BA and Certificate, so I guess I'd be looking for language school work.

Thanks

Language schools hire on a year round basis, but if you want to teach adults, I'd reccomend arriving at the middle or end of the month, as most would want you to start on the first. Kids schools seem more flexible on dates

You can really arrive anytime here as people are hiring on a 24/7 basis. The only real thing is finding the right job. There are so many daily, but 90% of those are not worth the interent space.

If you find a job you like the look of, speak to one of the teachers already there. That, in my opinion, is the most important thing that you can do when you find a school. They will tell you if it is good or not.

Happy hunting.

Yes, be specific with where those jobs are, because in fact, MOST university positions require a master's degree and a university language center is hardly the same a a true university position.

If you are a native English speaker with a degree and are willing to teach elementary and middle school students, then the best time to come is any moment of any day. The demand here is that great. If you have any problems getting offers I know some recruiters who'd love to hook you up.

Good luck whenever.

Thanks for the replies, while I'm not certain what I'll be doing yet, I didn't want to give up my current job to find out I've missed the hiring season.

This is a good post. I'm also a prospective English teacher planning to start work in September.

As the schools hire year round there are times of the year where they seem to hire more then the usual where it gives better chances for teachers out there. For the summer time it is for end of August. A great deal of schools need a lot of teachers around that time, so you want to set yourself up for about 2 months to a month and a half in advance. Talk to some schools and say that you want a position for end of August, I believe there will be more schools looking for teachers then. More then the usual at least.
