I'm moving to Bucheon on the 29th. I've never been there. I'm not really familiar with the western part of Seoul/Gyeonggi-do. Is anyone there who would like to show me around, hang out, introduce me to people, etc.? I'm 23, female, interested in: history, international affairs/relations, comedy, Anthropology, languages, cultures, food/cooking, yoga, running, studying Korean, reading books, writing (would be interested in writing for or starting a blog about cool things to do in Seoul and organizing events), etc. etc. From Florida but a New Yorker at heart. There's my craigslist ad right there.

Is Bucheon a nice place to live?

Also anyone who could give me some info about the cool places to go and good restaurants - I'd appreciate it Cool

Thanks!

Bucheon is alright. Pretty standard city in Korea. How you will enjoy it depends on where you are living in Bucheon. Any idea what subway station you are going to be near?

Not the part of Bucheon I would choose, but it's convenient enough. Homeplus is right there, and Yeokgok is one of the express stops so it's about a 22 minute ride to Yongsan. And unlike the part of line one that runs south, the express trains on that route are much more frequent. And when you do get to new Bucheon you can enjoy what is arguably the nicest Kim's Club in Korea.

I didn't really choose it, I just got a public middle school job there so I took it. If it was a hagwon, I would've been more choosy.

That's a good area. My last school was near Yeokgok. You're a couple stations east of Bucheon and not far west of Seoul. There's a good kalbi restaurant near Yeokgok Station (I forget the name, but it's near Cafe Bene), the post office is near by, Baskin Robins, coffee shops, etc. I think you'll be happy there.

[edit]: There are yoga places everywhere in Korea...well, I haven't been everywhere in Korea, but at least in Bucheon, you'll be fine.

I also live in Bucheon for quite a few years now. It's a nice place actually if you know where to go. Yeah, we have Kim's Club here, the standard Homeplus, E-Mart etc.

There's also a few western bars here to hang-out. I only had an experience with Rhythm n' Booze bar though, and it's quite alright. Cool

I lived in Yeokgok for two and a half years and really liked it. As people have said, it's convenient for getting to Seoul because it's on the express train line. There is a big Homeplus in walking distance, a post office, plenty of doctors, dentists, gyms, yoga places, restaurants and convenience stores - pretty much everything you could need for day to day stuff.

Also are a few different buses that pass down the street that can get you to pretty much anywhere else you want to go in Bucheon. One goes to Lotte and Hyundai Department stores, another to Bucheon station and Bucheon college areas. If you don't fancy that, can get a taxi just about anywhere for 3000~5000 or so.

The area is a little quieter than being near the department stores, which is where the foreign bars are, but unlike that area you should be within walking distance of the subway, which can make life a bit more convenient.

Also, I found the people in Yeokgok were really nice to me. The local marts, the post office, the optician, the gym - the staff were always very nice and friendly, saying hello in the street and all that. Almost felt like living in a community, something I haven't found since I moved to Seoul.
