Hi everyone
I have been offered a position in Incheon, in the WonDang-Dong area of town.
Would really, really appreciate any information anyone could offer about the city and this area in particular as I am a newcomer and really don't know what to expect and would like to end up somewhere half-decent!

Thanks

Incheon is a nice city (the 3rd biggest in Korea), however WonDang-Dong I think is right on the northern edge of the city and although part of Incheon its basically part of Gimpo City.

It's not very far away from Seoul or Incheon however I've never been there so I can't comment on the area. Good luck.

I spent a year working at a hagwon in Wondang-dong back in 2005. It was a new town back then, with a lot of construction still going on. I'd imagine it's quite a bustling little area by now, although nothing much to write home about. Usual fast food joints, gyms, pharmacies, hofs etc. Having said that, I actually lived over in the next dong, about a 10-12min bus ride away. Trips to Seoul by a combination of bus/subway took around an hour and a half. There may actually be express buses running into downtown Seoul though, so check that out if you're interested in a bit more action on the weekends. There were lots of hagwons around, so you shouldn't have too much trouble bumping into other foreigners living in the area.

Best of luck!

I actually live quite near this area. Wondang is peaceful and cleaner than surrounding parts of Incheon (including my area). Many buildings are new and I've heard that people living there tend to be wealthier than surrounding areas. Most of the surrounding areas are quite rural, although you can find all the basic stuff either in Wondang or just a short (10-20 minute) bus ride away.

Lots of express buses go through Wondang these days. There is one in particular that gets to Hapjeong/Hongdae/Sinchon/Edae in less than 40 minutes. For the movies you'll want to go to Geomdan sageori, a neighboring intersection that has a Lotte Cinema. All the other stuff you should find in Wondang - there's a Lotte Mart (if I remember correctly), it is close to Gimpo (like another previous poster mentioned) where there are some foreigner hangouts (haven't been to any of them, though). One thing you will most likely NOT find in this area is good Western food. We used to have an excellent woodfired pizza and pasta place in our area but it shut down before winter. Crying or Very sad

This part of Incheon is pretty quiet. Even though I have a small child, I spend a lot of time in Seoul, Ilsan, Bucheon, or other surrounding nearby cities on the weekends. However, I do appreciate the quiet and the nice landscape during the workweek.

I am working in the area atm and it is quite quiet...the area seems to have all the usual shops and whatnot. I only work there though and commute to Seoul. I am actually trying to get out of the hogwon because the price of gas is killing me...

if anyone wants my job it's at Highest next to the prehistory museum in Wondang...pm or email me: ka_ching_fu at hotmail dot com

...I would stay but work in Seongnam at a uni and live in central Seoul.
